FAQ

DO I need a fancy camera?

Any camera you bring will work just fine. If you are not happy with your current camera setup or just want to try out high quality gear for the workshop, we also offer equipment rentals. You can rent a specific piece, or a full kit. See above for pricing and availability..

Can I use an Iphone?

Of course. Camera phones are very high quality and now have a lot of custom functions. The nice part about using a phone is that you can focus more on light and composition and less about the techy nuances of an SLR camera.

Is transportation included?

All workshops begin at the workshop location. If you need assistance with transportation to the location from Bend, we can meet at the gallery downtown and caravan as a group.

Is there a lot of hiking?

There is a little bit of hiking. Most of it is on paved or flat trails. Hiking in and out of the canyon be a little strenuous so if you are worried about your ability, feel free to reach out and we can discuss. Most off the day is similar to a walk in a park.

Can Kids participate?.

Of course. All children under 18, must be accompanied by an adult guardian.

Thanks again for the workshop, we had a blast! I’ve taken my camera along on my hikes since then and it’s a lot more fun now that I know what I’m doing!

Jeff inquired before the workshop on what we were interested in learning. He then tailored our workshop around that. The whole thing was a great experience.

Jeffrey Murray is an outstanding photography instructor and guide. I recently had the opportunity to attend a workshop at Smith Rock State Park, and I learned an incredible amount. His expertise and passion for photography were evident in the lesson.

Throughout the workshop, Jeffrey provided invaluable tips and techniques that have significantly improved my photography skills. He patiently explained how to properly set up my camera, leverage a tripod, and use a polarizing filter to capture stunning landscape shots. Most importantly, Jeffrey shared insightful guidance on composition that has transformed the way I approach framing and capturing images.

Jeffrey’s teaching style is engaging and approachable. His depth of knowledge, combined with his ability to communicate complex concepts clearly, makes him an exceptional instructor.

I highly recommend Jeffrey Murray to anyone looking to elevate their photography skills, whether a beginner or experienced enthusiast. His workshops are an incredible value, and I left the experience with a renewed passion for the art of photography. I am confident that anyone who has the chance to learn from Jeffrey will walk away feeling inspired and equipped to take their photography to new heights.

My wife and I took a private half-day photo class with Jeff in Bend earlier this week. We both learned a ton and would strongly recommend taking a class with him. Jeff is not just a great photographer, but also an amazing teacher! Being able to teach how to take good pictures is a different skill from being able to take great photos, and Jeff has both!

The class had the perfect mixture of allowing us to try things out ourselves, and Jeff providing feedback. This enabled us to even in just a few hours to pick up a lot of valuable techniques and experiment with them.

Despite this just being a half-day class we managed to squeeze in lots of picture taking at 2 locations. In part this was because Jeff had taken the time to scout out good locations in advance within a short driving time of Bend. So the class was super efficient and we really maximized the time that we had.

We are in the middle of a longer vacation and have been taking a lot of pictures. It has been really fun to have new techniques and tools to work with and practice, and our pictures are coming out significantly better.
All in all I’d definitely recommend taking a class with him and improve upon my new photographic knowledge!
